NAFTA must be working for Canada!

NAFTA Canada...

.....Prior to NAFTA, Canada had a small surplus with the U.S.

.....Since NAFTA, Canada's surplus with the U.S. has been growing every year

.....In 2007 alone, Canada's surplus with the U.S. was $97,000,000,000 (that's 97 billion dollars)

.....NAFTA MUST BE WORKING FOR CANADA!

However, much of the tremendous increase in exports to the U.S. is due to the demand for energy, forestry and mineral products and would have been inevitable regardless of NAFTA.

Employment in these fast growing areas is much lower than in the manufacturing sector where Canada has lost most of it's manufacturing since NAFTA began.

Although Canada has a trade surplus overall - it is declining rapidly due to imports from China.

A recent government study found that because of the high "China-made" parts content of the products it exports, more of Canada's jobs were being destroyed by outsourcing than what were gained from the "Canada-assembled" NAFTA exports.
